The JCC of Staten Island is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Jewish Education to lead and expand the agency's educational initiatives for the staff and the greater community. The Director will oversee educational programming for individuals and families of all ages, ensuring a deep and enriching understanding of Jewish traditions, values, and customs. The Director will also play a key role in the agency’s fellowship program, supported by the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), which works in collaboration with other faith-based leaders to educate and combat anti-hate movements. This is a leadership role with the opportunity to impact the Jewish community of Staten Island.WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Jewish Education Leadership: Provide leadership and vision for all Jewish educational programs and activities for all ages and families within the community, ensuring high-quality and meaningful Jewish learning experiences.
- Staff Education: Lead professional development opportunities for agency staff, equipping them with knowledge and skills to integrate Jewish values into their work and daily lives.
- Holiday Observances: Organize, oversee, and lead observances of Jewish holidays across all JCC sites, ensuring that they reflect Jewish traditions and provide a meaningful experience for all participants.
- Fellowship Program: Lead the agency’s fellowship program, funded by JCRC, which brings together faith-based leaders to educate about and combat anti-hate movements. Facilitate and manage partnerships with other religious and community leaders.
- Community Outreach: Travel to various JCC sites and engage with community members to provide Jewish educational programs and promote Jewish values and traditions.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and implement educational curricula, programs, and resources that foster lifelong Jewish learning and promote Jewish identity and values.
- Engagement and Support: Build strong relationships with community members, families, and staff to encourage active participation in Jewish educational programs and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Jewish Life Knowledge: Serve as the primary source of knowledge on Jewish life, customs, and practices, providing guidance and expertise to the staff, community, and leadership.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other JCC departments, local synagogues, and Jewish organizations to create community-wide programming and enhance Jewish engagement.
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Jewish life, traditions, history, and values.
- Ordained Rabbi or Cantor is highly preferred.
- Significant experience in Jewish education, community engagement, and programming.
- Proven experience working with diverse communities and all age groups, including children, teens, and adults.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and educate others.
- Ability to collaborate with other faith-based leaders and community organizations, particularly in the context of anti-hate education.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to travel between different JCC sites and work outside of regular business hours for holidays and community events.
