POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Handyman
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Lead Worker

It is the policy of Job Squad that there shall be a description to provide essential information about the work activities to be performed and specification, which shall identify education, experience, and skill requirements relevant to adequate performance in the position as described. There shall be no unnecessary specifications which might have the effect of disqualifying a disproportionate number of minorities, women, Vietnam era veterans, handicapped individuals, persons over 40 years of age or other protected class members.
PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Lead Worker, performs duties such as painting, floor treatment, handyman work, hanging artifacts on walls, unclogging toilet, replacing faucets, repairing window closers, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Physical dexterity, especially eye-hand coordination, and finger dexterity. Must be able to follow directions, pick up and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle. Must be able to make repairs and to listen to sounds to test performance and use hand tools. Performs custodial duties as needed. Must have reading and writing capability. Must have a valid drivers license, clear driving record, and reliable transportation. Must be able to perform basic math calculations and convert measurements. Must be able to communicate well and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be sensitive to the needs and/or problems of people with disabilities.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Must have 1 year experience in handy work and technical expertise. High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.
GOODWILL/HUMAN RELATION SKILLS: Incumbent has contact with the public and tact and courtesy are necessary. He/she must develop and maintain a positive customer service attitude. He/she must also demonstrate appropriate work behaviors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND MENTAL EFFORT: Incumbent must be able to understand and carry out directions given orally or in written form. Must be able to read manufacturer's repair manuals, locate causes of trouble, examine parts for defects, and replace and repair defective parts. Must be aware of all safety hazards.
INITIATIVE AND CREATIVITY: Position involves arriving at solutions to problems by using judgment and a choice of learned things. He/she should have the motivation to work without direct supervision.
TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Incumbent is presumed to know work details and complete the job without direct supervision. He/she adapts time schedules for work to be completed. Follows standardized work practices and procedure.
IMPACT OF JOB ON END RESULTS: Completion of work objectives in a timely manner has direct impact on the overall success of the contract.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs walk-through assessments and prepare cost estimates
- Performs basic repairs
- Preforms routine maintenance (painting, wall damage, etc.)
- Move heavy furniture, appliances, and equipment
- Paint surfaces as requested
- Take on other installation, repair, and maintenance duties as needed and legally permitted
- Communicate status of tasks with lead worker, daily
- Promotes safety and provides safety tips and or safety training as needed
- Performs custodial duties as needed.
- Attends training and meetings as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned
