JOB TITLE:  Inventory Control Supervisor

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Presort Operations Manager

PURPOSE: An Inventory Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supervising a company's inventory to ensure optimal stock levels and smooth operations. Here's a comprehensive job description for an Inventory Control Supervisor:

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Inventory Control Supervisor is responsible for maintaining optimal inventory levels, minimizing costs, and ensuring accurate inventory records. This role involves coordinating with various departments, analyzing inventory data, and implementing strategies to improve inventory management processes.

This role also requires physical dexterity and fine/gross motor ability.  Must be able to follow written or oral directions.  Must be able to pick up and move objects weighing 50 lbs. or less; stoop, kneel, reach, climb, handle, and be capable of successfully carrying out and completing inventory duties unsupervised. Must have the ability to work with and train staff, who may have disabilities.  Must be willing to work various shifts and weekends and holidays.

 

GOODWILL / HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS:  The Inventory Control Supervisor must be sensitive to the needs of and problems encountered by people who have disabilities.  Must have the ability to prompt and motivate others to do their jobs.  Must have the tact and diplomacy and has to encourage people toward a specific goal.  This person has much customer and public contact and must understand people, disabled and non-disabled.

 

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Provides first line supervision to employees; interprets and initiates standardized procedures, such as inventory practices, employee evaluations, and schedules. Gives frequent instructions and handles problems and emergencies.  Calls the Operations Manager when uncertain as to course of action. 

 

TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Supervision will be intermittent.

 

IMPACT OF JOB ON END RESULTS:  Completion of tasks according to direction and in a timely manner has impact on the overall success of the contract.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Proven experience in inventory management, supply chain, or logistics.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid WV Driver’s License with a clear driving record and at least 5 years of driving experience, with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Must pass a background check with WV Cares and maintain good standing for the duration of employment, completing recertifications periodically.
  • This role may require occasional travel to different locations or warehouses. This role may involve working in a warehouse or storage environment with varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to utilize a fork lift, as needed.

 

ACTIVITIES OF THE INVENTORY CONTROL SUPERVISOR INCLUDE:

  1. Inventory Management:
    • Develop and implement inventory control procedures and best practices.
    • Monitor inventory levels to ensure they meet the company's needs and avoid overstocking or stockouts.
    • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and system records.
  2. Shipping Process Management:
    • Oversee the process of shipping orders with accuracy.
    • Must be familiar with common shipping programs.
    • Monitors shipping supplies and places orders for supplies when necessary.
  3. Order Management:
    • Place orders for stock and manage relationships with suppliers and vendors.
    • Forecast inventory needs based on sales trends, historical data, and market conditions.
    • Ensure timely delivery of products and manage any delays or issues with suppliers.
  4. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyze inventory data and generate reports on stock levels, turnover rates, and other key metrics.
    • Prepare and present inventory reports to senior management.
    • Utilize inventory management software to track and manage stock.
  5. Process Improvement:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inventory accuracy and efficiency.
    • Develop and enforce inventory control policies and procedures.
    • Optimize inventory storage and handling practices to minimize waste and reduce costs.
  6. Team Management:
    • Supervise and train inventory staff to ensure effective performance and adherence to procedures.
    • Delegate tasks and manage the workflow of the inventory team.
    • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  7. Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Collaborate with purchasing, sales, and logistics teams to align inventory strategies with overall business objectives.
    • Address any issues related to inventory that may impact other departments.
  8. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain a safe and organized inventory storage environment.

 

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for safety and security of the building and inventory while shift is operating and while closing shift.
  2. Attend training and meetings as required.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
