Overview
Bowhead Transport Company provides marine cargo transportation; lightering; environmental and research support, logistics and oilfield services. We are seeking an experienced engineer who can perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs aboard our 200 GRT, 150ft Landing Craft, MV Unalaq built new in 2014.
Responsibilities
- Conduct all predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs of all Engineering; propulsion mechanics, power generator system, electricity, lubrication, fuel system, water distillation, HVAC, fire suppression systems, emergency equipment, and maintenance of deck equipment.
- Supervise employees as required.
- Assist the Project Manager with collection and compilation of vessel maintenance statistics, training of staff, and ensuring the safety of the workplace.
Qualifications
- Able to complete an annual Merchant Mariners physical exam and perform physically demanding shipboard duties.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex technical matters to non-technical individuals.
- Excellent writing skills to clearly communicate technical information via email or text.
- Strong record keeping skills to accurately document maintenance and repairs in ships records.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Requirements
- USCG Rated as Designated duty Engineer, 4000 HP with STCW-95.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an engineer aboard vessels conducting routine operation, predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs.
- U.S. Citizenship and current U.S. Passport.
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and Drivers' License.
Working Conditions
- Crammed and confined spaces.
- Work in fog, dark, and other visibility limiting conditions.
- Exposure to fuels, solvents, cleaners, dust, fumes, smoke, and gases.
- Work on vessels in adverse weather conditions.
- Loud engine, blowers, and exhaust noise.
- Irregular working hours.
- Vibrations from vessel engines.
- Arctic marine environment including low temperatures, high wind, icing, plenty of moisture and wave action.
