Dentistry - Part-time Staff Dentist

Description:

The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) is seeking a part-time Dentist 1 to provide professional dental care for youth in the custody of OCFS. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct examinations of individuals' teeth and surrounding oral structures using x-rays, mouth mirrors, and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions.
• Treat dental diseases, injuries, and malfunctions of teeth and gums.
• Perform restoration of simple and compound cavities.
• Perform oral surgery commensurate with professional qualifications.
• Treat teeth, mouth, and gum infections with appropriate drugs or by surgery.
• Maintain written records of individuals' dental treatments.
• Advise individuals about dental health practices.
• Instruct and direct paraprofessional dental staff in the performance of auxiliary duties.
• Provide general supervision for licensed dental hygienist to conduct their scope of practice duties.

Requirements:

• Possession of a license and current registration to practice dentistry in New York State.
• Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.
• This position will be filled on a part-time basis.

Note: This title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment under the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status.
