The Pharmacy Director plays a crucial role in leading and managing the Pharmacy Department's operations, ensuring excellence in patient care and fostering innovation in healthcare services.
Main Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and clinical department leaders to uphold and enhance the quality of patient care.
- Lead performance improvement initiatives within the Pharmacy Department, ensuring adherence to patient care standards and medical practice regulations.
- Manage the secure storage and accurate distribution of pharmaceutical items, maintaining strict compliance with Federal and State regulations and inventory control protocols.
Leadership and Management:
The Pharmacy Director oversees, directs, and manages the overall operations of the Pharmacy Department to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
- Coordinates the seamless integration of the Pharmacy Department's functions with other areas of patient care to support a holistic healthcare approach.
- Actively participates in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital committees, contributing to institutional goals and initiatives.
- Performs the full scope of responsibilities of a staff pharmacist, ensuring high standards of care and operational support.
Human Resource Functions:
The Pharmacy Director leads and manages human resource functions for the Pharmacy Department, including recruitment, promotion, orientation, and conducting performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team.
- Oversees and facilitates educational experiences for pharmacy and pharmacy technician students, ensuring alignment with program objectives and enhancing learning outcomes.
- DIRECTS AND COORDINATES IN-SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAMS TO ENSURE STAFF MAINTAIN AND ADVANCE THEIR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE, MEETING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE.

Financial Management:
The Pharmacy Director evaluates the Pharmacy Department's revenue streams to ensure alignment with reimbursement regulations and the maintenance of competitive pricing structures.
- Oversees the development and management of the Pharmacy Department's annual budget, monitoring financial performance and addressing variances to optimize efficiency.
- Establishes and maintains accurate records for patient charges, requisitioning, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals, ensuring strict compliance with regulations governing narcotics and other controlled substances.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate of college of pharmacy accredited by The American Council of Pharmaceutical Education. Licensed by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy.
- Three to five years of experience in an acute care hospital setting within a Pharmacy Department. Supervisory or project management experience is required.
- Frequent use of finger dexterity required to handle IV's, medications and computer keyboard. Must be able to frequently reach small items from shelves ranging from floor level to 7 feet high. Mental/Visual Effort: Work requires constant attention to detail for accuracy. Must be able to speak and write the English language understandable. Visual acuity necessary. Occasional exposure to hazardous materials.
