Executive Director - Service Line (Bass Center)

This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job.

This position is responsible for providing overall leadership, growth, accountability, sustainability and consumer experience for the service lines resulting in high quality outcomes, growth in strategic services and cost effective performance. Responsible for operations of critical departments and business / market development for the clinical services involved. Plans, directs, coordinates and serves as the administrative leader for various service line activities, projects and programs. Leads and develops the strategic plan and marketing / business development tactics for these services. Serves as the primary liaison to Executive Leadership for these services and functions as a primary hospital representative to the School of Medicine (and others) for these services. Works closely with the medical leadership regarding patient services and business planning including delivery of services, state of relevant technology and equipment, revenue generation, establishment and reimbursement for charges, budget and all other related administrative matters. Evaluates and implements improvements in patient care, operational efficiencies, performance methods and employee issues. Oversees and improves Profit / Loss performance for these services, makes recommendations and improves profitability with balanced focus on both revenue and expense.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Collaborates with medical staff, executive administration, department managers and staff at all levels to develop goals, objectives, strategy and business plans for continued growth and development of the departments.
  • Develops consolidated operating budgets including projected requirements with justifications and forecasting cash flow needs for submission to Departmental and Hospital Business Office. Monitors performance against budget and analyzes all variances.
  • Expands business and referral relationships and working with medical staff leaders to support the growth of such strategic services and relationships at LPCHS.
  • Works in collaboration with Joint Venture partners as appropriate.
  • Responsible for developing strategic business and marketing plans for service lines to ensure growth, stability and strong financial performance for these services at LPCHS.
  • Identifies and implements best practices in resource utilization management, contracting and marketing.
  • Interacts with and serves as a primary resource to individuals responsible for coordinating all aspects of the delivery of services.
  • Oversees clinical benchmarking and public reporting processes of service lines areas and organizes medical staff and clinical team strategies to improve outcomes and efficiencies (i.e., length of stay) for key populations in the service.
  • Responsible for clinical operations and business of key departments related to the service.
  • Continually assesses market environment, service area demographics, market share, payor mix, customer satisfaction, clinical outcomes, service life cycle, and other functions related to operational performance of service line. Determines resources required (personnel, facilities, equipment and supplies) for effective administration and operation of services and programs.
  • Develops and maintains operational and financial metrics : Develops metrics, dashboards, and reports that accurately measure financials (patient volumes, charges, frequency of procedures, revenues, direct and indirect costs, etc.), resource allocation (physician recruitment, procedure rooms, staff allocation, etc.), access to appointments (physician supply, appointment availability, etc.), patient experience (wait times, etc.).
  • Collaborates with VP Strategic Planning and service line leadership in developing capital and operating budget for the service line. Monitors actual performance against budget; performs monthly budget reconciliations, directs the analysis of service line's results relative to budget and past history. Identifies key issues, trends, problem areas, and remedial alternatives and effect on future operations and communicates findings to senior management.
  • Engages with the Clinic / Clinic Administration on the management and oversight of clinic operations.
  • Engages with inpatient teams on the oversight of inpatient clinical services.
  • Partners with the School of Medicine on faculty needs, as well as research and manufacturing implications for clinical care.
  • Responsible for improving Profit / Loss Performance for these services and working with medical and clinical staff to achieve optimal efficiencies.
  • Works with the leadership team to identify and plan program functions to improve the appropriate utilization of all service lines.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

  • Education : Masters degree in a work-related discipline / field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience : Ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience in managing and leading programs, work units or departments of comparable size, scope and complexity.
  • Licensure / Certification : None required.

    Pay Range

    Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

    Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

    Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

    Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE) : $222,601.60 to $317,283.20
