This is a one year contract position with an anticipated annual salary between the minimum of the range and maximum of $82,000 annually. Applications will be reviewed starting January 6, 2025.

Department Summary

Established in 1969, the UCLA Asian American Studies Center (AASC) is a national research center dedicated to advancing historical, transformative and interdisciplinary scholarship that bridges research with community voices. The Institute of American Cultures houses the AASC along with the American Indian Studies Center, Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies, and Chicano Studies Research Center. The centers are the only ethnic studies organized research units (ORU) among the 10 University of California campuses. The AASC advances research and the field of ethnic studies through publications, public programs and events, providing funding opportunities, maintaining the largest Asian American Studies library and archives in the U.S., housing 7 Endowed Chaired Professorships, and community partnerships with local, state, and national organizations. The Center has 13 staff and a Faculty Advisory Committee made of 55 faculty members across campus.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Managing Editor, the Senior Multimedia Producer will act as the point person for reviewing and clearing archival and multimedia assets for the Multimedia Textbook on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, a project of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center. The Multimedia Textbook brings together distinguished scholarship, open access technology, and ethnic studies pedagogy to deepen public knowledge about Asian American and Pacific Islander histories. This resource is geared toward students and instructors in 9th-14th grade classrooms. The Senior Multimedia Producer will oversee research, tracking, and clearance of digital assets for our multimedia textbook project from initial research stages all the way through clearance. Applicants must have experience with research, archival pulls, clearing multimedia materials, fair use knowledge, and liaising with legal and production to clear images / footage / media assets for use.

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • 3-5 Years Managing complex projects to meet budget and timelines (Required)
  • 3-5 Years Curating multimedia as part of exhibits, publications, and / or media productions (Required)
  • 3-5 Years Clearing multimedia materials for use in large-scale and / or digital education projects (Preferred)
  • 2-3 Years Experience with high school teaching, curriculum development, or educational technology development (Preferred)
  • Skill to accurately develop complex project plans, resource requirements, and project cost estimates; ability to deliver projects within budget, using resources efficiently and effectively (Required)
  • Ability to understand the process involved to adapt, integrate, and modify existing systems for a quickly-evolving project (Required)
  • Ability to facilitate and oversee multiple workstreams of assigned functions / areas with common objectives (Required)
  • Leadership experience in facilitating meetings and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in academia, from the community, and other Center staff (Required)
  • Skill providing direction, training, and feedback to collaborators (Required)
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking communication skills, both written and spoken in dealing with scholars, students, educators, editors, writers, reviewers and publishing personnel (Required)
  • Strong professional and academic writing skills and excellent organizational skills (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize, compose, and produce weekly documentation reports (Required)
  • Proficient in common applications in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite (Required)
  • Familiarity with professional messaging programs like Slack; Familiarity with project management programs like Asana, Trello, and Notion (Preferred)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Information Sciences, Archival Studies, Film, Journalism, Multimedia Design, Education, Educational Technology, Museum Studies or related field, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education (Required)
  • Master's Degree in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Information Sciences, Archival Studies, Film, Journalism, Multimedia Design, Education, Educational Technology, Museum Studies or related field, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education (Preferred)
