We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Manager with experience in the insurance industry to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and ensuring accuracy in financial statements. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance accounting principles, statutory reporting, and GAAP/IFRS compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
Ensure compliance with insurance industry regulations, including reporting to state insurance departments and regulatory agencies (e.g., NAIC, DOI).
Manage statutory financial filings, including Annual Statements and Quarterly Statements.
Assist with external and internal audits, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
Accounting Operations & Controls
Manage general ledger activities, reconciliations, and journal entries.
Oversee premium accounting, claims reserves, and reinsurance transactions.
Ensure timely and accurate accruals, expense recognition, and reconciliations.
Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
Financial Analysis & Business Support
Monitor insurance reserves, loss ratios, and investment portfolios for accuracy.
Support forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis for management decision-making.
Collaborate with underwriting, claims, and actuarial teams to ensure financial accuracy.
Provide insights into policyholder liabilities, premium income, and claims trends.
Leadership & Process Improvement
Lead and mentor a team of accountants, ensuring professional growth and efficiency.
Enhance accounting processes and systems for improved efficiency and accuracy.
Work with IT and finance teams to support system implementations and upgrades.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
5 years of accounting experience in the insurance industry (P&C, life, or health insurance preferred).
Strong knowledge of insurance accounting principles, including SAP, GAAP, and IFRS.
Experience with insurance financial systems (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle, Guidewire, or similar).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, and ERP systems.
Strong analytical skills and ability to manage complex financial data.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
