The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for managing the accounts receivable process, including obtaining and understanding remittances, and payment recording. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the company’s accounts receivable is up to date and accurate at all times. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
This role will be based out of our office located in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Roles and Responsibilities
Understanding Remittances: The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for understanding remittances from customers and reconciling them with open invoices. This involves reviewing payment information, including checks, wire transfers, and credit card payments, and ensuring that they match the amount owed.
Payment Recording: The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for recording payments received from customers, ensuring that they are accurately applied to the correct account, and following up on any discrepancies or issues that arise.
Collections: The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for contacting customers who have outstanding balances and working with them to resolve any issues or disputes. This may involve sending reminders, making phone calls, and sending collection letters.
Reporting: The Accounts Receivable Specialist will be responsible for generating reports on accounts receivable activity, including aging reports, cash receipts reports, and other ad hoc reports as needed.
Skills and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field preferred.
At least 3-5 years of experience in accounts receivable or a related field.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Experience with accounting software, such as QuickBooks or NetSuite, preferred.
Experience with major retail accounts is a plus (Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc.)
