Job Details

Position Summary

As we transition from outsourced billing, we are looking for a strong billing representative with at least 5 years of experience in a private physician practice to help us establish efficient processes and optimize revenue cycle performance. This role requires a strong background in healthcare billing and coding, particularly within surgical services. This individual will be responsible for ensuring accurate coding, timely claims submissions, and efficient resolution of billing issues for neurosurgical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage lockbox services, ERA, EFT, and other payment processing systems.
  • Experience with Echo, Payspan, Jopari, Virtual Credit Cards, or similar services is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets and PowerBI is essential.
  • Accurately code and bill for neurosurgical services, ensuring compliance with all relevant payer requirements and healthcare regulations.
  • Review patient charts and surgical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments.
  • Submit insurance claims in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, utilizing appropriate methods to resolve discrepancies and ensure optimal reimbursement.
  • Collaborate with the revenue cycle team to ensure efficient collections and accurate payment posting.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and clinical staff to resolve billing and coding issues.
  • Stay up to date with changes in coding standards, payer-specific policies, and relevant healthcare regulations, including the No Surprise Act.
  • Work closely with the clinical and administrative teams to resolve any discrepancies between documentation and coding.
  • Monitor and manage the status of outstanding claims and patient accounts, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Participate in audits and quality control processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and payer requirements.
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior billing staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with a preference for candidates with 5 years of experience.
  • Strong expertise in neurosurgical procedures, coding, and insurance claim requirements.
  • Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Experience with insurance verification, claim submission, and follow-up processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance payer policies, including out-of-network reimbursement practices.
  • Ability to analyze, resolve, and follow up on denied or rejected claims to ensure prompt payment.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, preferably EClinicalWorks (ECW).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clinical teams, patients, and insurance providers.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including the No Surprise Act, is highly preferred.
  • Medical billing and coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS) is preferred but not required.
