Job purpose
This role is responsible for ensuring facilities and high hazard processes managed under the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) program meet all regulatory requirements under the OSHA PSM Standard 1910.119 and employees have the training and tools to perform their functions within the company safely.
In addition, the Safety Engineer provides engineering support to projects or operations, including maintenance, inspection and turnaround, proactively interacting with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to systematically resolve problems and applying basic engineering judgement to deliver integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.

Job purpose
This role is responsible for ensuring facilities and high hazard processes managed under the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) program meet all regulatory requirements under the OSHA PSM Standard 1910.119 and employees have the training and tools to perform their functions within the company safely.
In addition, the Safety Engineer provides engineering support to projects or operations, including maintenance, inspection and turnaround, proactively interacting with other disciplines, teams, subfunctions and contractors to systematically resolve problems and applying basic engineering judgement to deliver integrated, pragmatic solutions focused on risk management, operating efficiency, defect elimination and standardization.
Duties and responsibilities
- Oversee the development, implementation, documentation and maintenance of the PSM program to assure compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management requirements as they are applicable
- Provide EHS&S related input on the design/development of facilities, equipment, work areas and procedures
- Champion the Management of Change (MOC) process, including initiation, management and tracking of change requests made
- Initiate and facilitate process hazard analyses (PHA) as required by OSHA
- Schedule and lead PHA revalidations
- Initiate and facilitate Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Schedule and facilitate PSM program audits
- Support action item owners with developing and delivering action closure plans. Track action items and provide routine reporting of related KPIs
- Support Incident Investigation for process safety related events, lead investigation teams as appropriate and as assigned
- Develop/document procedures to address PSM requirements. Train affected personnel
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this job include:
- BS Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- 4 years or more working experience in a chemical manufacturing facility regulated under OSHA PSM, with strong working knowledge of the 1910.119 standard
- Experience with PHA and PSSR facilitation preferred
- Proficient & comfortable in using computers and common software applications/programs (e.g. MS Office, Outlook email/calendar, Windows operating system, internet explorer, web applications)
- Detail oriented; Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to organize tasks and consistently produce results with minimal supervision.
- Understanding manufacturing processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (formal/informal); able to effectively communicate and work with all levels of the organization/external agencies, e.g. employees, local/regional/corporate leader's/staff members, city/state/federal agencies
