Job Summary :

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests and analyses with accuracy and attention to detail.

This role requires a high degree of technical skill in both waived and non-waived tests, as well as a commitment to quality control and patient care.

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will work collaboratively with other laboratory professionals, including lab assistants and physicians, to ensure timely and accurate results.

This role also involves performing specimen collections such as skin, arterial, and venipuncture as necessary, and assisting with regulatory compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform Laboratory Tests : Conduct tests of both waived and non-waived complexity in various sections of the laboratory, ensuring high-quality results in a timely manner.
  • Quality Control : Follow established procedures for quality control and quality assurance to maintain the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Documentation : Accurately document all work performed, including test results, quality control data, and any issues encountered during testing.
  • Supervise Lab Assistants : Oversee the work of lab assistants, ensuring adherence to procedures and maintaining the quality of laboratory operations.
  • Specimen Collection : Perform skin, arterial, and venipuncture collection as needed to obtain specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Regulatory Compliance : Assist with regulatory compliance activities as directed by section supervisors and the lab manager, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with other laboratory staff, including physicians and medical professionals, to support patient care and laboratory operations.

Required Qualifications :

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (required).
  • Ability to perform a wide range of laboratory tests and analyses.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures, quality control, and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and other specimen collection methods, including skin and arterial collections.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients, staff, and the public.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to navigate laboratory information systems.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Blood Bank experience (preferred, but not required).
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to laboratory practices.
  • Experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
  • Certifications :

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (required).
  • Additional certifications or specialized training (e.g., Blood Bank, Microbiology) are a plus.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate care, compassion, and professionalism in interactions with patients, staff, and visitors.
