Director of Data Governance

Job Summary

The Director of Data Governance will lead the development and implementation of data governance strategies, frameworks, and practices across the organization.

This role ensures data integrity, security, compliance, and quality across systems while fostering a culture of data stewardship and governance.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of designing and executing data strategies and will play a key role in ensuring the organization meets both business and regulatory requirements for data management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and articulate the organization's data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the business goals and objectives.
• Define data governance objectives, priorities, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Establish and implement a robust data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures.
• Set up governance structures, roles, and responsibilities to support effective data stewardship and accountability.
• Implement data stewardship programs to promote ownership and accountability across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, and other industry-specific regulations.
• Establish data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring mechanisms, working with data owners and stewards to resolve data quality issues.
• Conduct regular data audits and assessments to identify and mitigate data risks.
• Collaborate with IT and Security teams to define and implement data security and privacy policies, controls, and procedures.
• Ensure that data security policies comply with regulatory requirements, especially for wealth management and financial advisory firms.
• Conduct regular data security assessments and audits to address vulnerabilities.
• Implement metadata management processes and tools to track data flow, maintain data lineage, and ensure transparency in data usage.
• Establish data dictionaries, glossaries, and cataloging tools for metadata discovery and documentation.
• Oversee the integration of disparate data sources into a unified platform, ensuring data standards and business objectives are met.
• Collaborate with IT and Data Engineering teams to design and implement data integration solutions.
• Lead the data governance efforts, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and collaboration.
• Provide training and support to data stewards and stakeholders on governance best practices.
• Identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business insights, innovation, and competitive advantage.
