Environmental Lab Technician III

Job Summary

The Environmental Lab Technician III is responsible for enabling the mill to meet environmental compliance requirements, conducting various sampling and analytical tests, and assisting with quality assurance investigations. This position involves wastewater, stormwater, and groundwater sampling, as well as inspections of tanks and waste accumulation areas. The technician plays a crucial role in supporting mill goals for safety, production, budget, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform required effluent and upstream wastewater sampling, stormwater sampling, and analytical tests to meet VPDES permit compliance.
• Participate in the sampling program for groundwater wells to support environmental regulatory requirements.
• Conduct analytical tests on raw materials, intermediate materials, finished products, and wastes to support quality assurance investigations.
• Inspect tanks and waste accumulation areas, reporting deficiencies as necessary.
• Assist with maintaining safety performance, production, and customer satisfaction goals.
• Collect samples in an industrial setting, including wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, raw materials, intermediate products, finished products, and waste materials.
• Perform analyses using laboratory instruments, including BOD, COD, TSS, and pH.
• Prepare samples and shipment papers for off-site laboratory transport.
• Conduct inspections of oil tanks and hazardous waste accumulation areas, reporting issues.
• Enter analytical results into databases or spreadsheets for reporting.
• Assist with laboratory housekeeping tasks.
• Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory instruments.
• Monitor laboratory chemical inventory.
• Adhere to mill safety rules, participating in safety programs and meetings.
• Be available for weekend and holiday on-call duty approximately every three weeks.
