- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures (e.g., urine, fecal) to patients in a clear and professional manner.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
- Accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Package and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining sample integrity.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations for safe handling and processing of specimens.
- Update patient information and maintain accurate records.
- Troubleshoot specimen collection issues and recommend workflow improvements.
- Answer patient and provider inquiries regarding laboratory results.
- Participate in annual department training sessions.
- Valid Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state regulations).
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- 2-4 years of overall experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
