BASIC FUNCTION
To conduct experimental research work in a biomedical laboratory, including testing and evaluating current procedures; to judge the validity of experimental data obtained; to prepare manuscripts; to prepare data for presentation at meetings and in manuscripts; to instruct students and other personnel in animal surgical and behavioral, as well as molecular biological and microscopy techniques.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
To identify and define problems that can be addressed by scientific research. To develop working hypotheses that can be tested by molecular and in vivo approaches.
To perform experiments using molecular methods including DNA and RNA extraction and protein and gene expression analyses, physiological and metabolomic analyses, microscopy techniques including confocal, two-photon, and lightsheet, and mouse and porcine model approaches including working with and maintaining transgenic animals, cognitive, developmental, behavioral, and physiological testing, in vivo neuronal imaging, collection of tissue, stereotaxic and other surgical preparations, and pharmacological and viral drug delivery.
To write research progress reports; to analyze physiological, biochemical, behavioral, molecular, and imaging data, and prepare graphs and other illustrations for presentation of research findings; to perform statistical analyses, to judge the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; to design new experiments.
To prepare manuscripts for publication.
To prepare presentations (posters, seminars and lectures) of the research results.
To train, schedule, assign and evaluate work of support personnel and students in behavioral and molecular methods and data analysis.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
Requires a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
4 or more years of postdoctoral training
Considerable (5-7 years) experience in maintenance and behavioral testing of various animal models, including transgenic mice.
Experience in molecular biological techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and qPCR
Experience in statistical analysis and analysis programs including GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, and Neurolucida.
Experience in brightfield, fluorescence, confocal, and lightsheet microscopy.
Experience in stereotaxic surgery.
Experience in delivery of viral vectors and pharmacological agents.
Experience in animal behavioral tracking system, including DeepLabCut and Ethovision.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Established track record of scientific productivity (e.g., authorships in peer-reviewed publications).
Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work independently.
Willingness to work flexible hours.
Considerable knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Considerable knowledge of sex differences
Experience in ovariectomy surgery and hormone treatment.
Experience with in vivo imaging.
