The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, is seeking a full-time customer-focused individual to join our team as a Clerk III at the University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus. This role is integral to maintaining efficient and effective front-line operations within a high-volume, dynamic clinic environment.  

As a Clerk III, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing exceptional front desk reception services. Your primary responsibilities will include managing the check-in and check-out processes for patients, scheduling clinic appointments, and operating multi-line phone systems to assist both internal and external customers. This position demands the ability to multitask effectively and deliver outstanding service in a fast-paced setting.

Primary job duties include:

·        Scheduling outpatient appointments, coordinating clinic appointments with diagnostic tests, ancillary services, or other departments. Negotiate appointments with patients and other departments.

·        Completion of check-in process in an outpatient clinic. This includes, but it not limited to, obtaining patient demographics, valid payer information, co-payment, and outside imaging. Facilitate patient flow and maintain communications with clinical staff.  

·        Maintain phone coverage for clinic scheduling. Answer, transfer, and manage ACD phone system by adhering to the standards of excellence for phone management.

·        Process and manage incoming referrals, medical records, related documentation, and external imaging.

·        Serves as an intermediary between patients and Nursing, Advanced Practice Providers, and Faculty offices concerning scheduling concerns and medical needs.

·        Uses computers, medical records system (Epic), and a variety of software and/or conventional office equipment.

Location: This position will be moving to Medical Center North Liberty on or around April 28, 2025. Prior to Medical Center North Liberty opening, candidates are expected to begin their job orientation and onboarding at our University of Iowa Health Care Sports Medicine Clinic.

Percent of Time: 100%

Work Schedule: 2 shifts available:

·        Monday through Thursday 11 am to 8 pm, Friday 8 am to 5 pm

·        Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5 pm 

Parking: On-site employee parking, UI Parking permit required

Pay Grade: 8

Starting Salary: $38314.80

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. Minimum Eligibility Requirements

·        Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.

Desirable Qualifications

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·        Excellent customer service skills that include customer facing or patient facing experience

·        Experience working on computers and navigating multiple systems

·        Hospital and/or medical patient scheduling

·        Medical terminology

·        Experience working in a healthcare environment with patients and using medical records system
