Serve as a lead instructional designer to provide leadership, consultation, instruction, and assistance to faculty, staff, and teaching assistants concerning all aspects of instructional design, development, instructional technology, teaching and learning for the College of Nursing. Apply inclusive design principles for continuous improvement into course design and development processes. Assist the Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning in the development of the newly created Office of Teaching and Learning.
The role of an instructional designer is to assist instructors (faculty, staff, teaching assistants) in the design and development of courses for academic and non-academic programs within the College of Nursing. They will apply instructional design principles to: (1) guide instructors in the process of improving existing and creating new course offerings; (2) guide instructors in the process of organizing content for delivery, (3) recommend instructional strategies and media to support course goals and objectives; (4) assist in the designing and development of instructional materials for non-academic departments such as the Online Nurse Residency Program, and (5) setup and/or restructure course content and/or assessments on learning management systems

Specific Job Duties and Tasks
- Coordinate sustainable instructional design projects from start to completion.
- Consult on the development, adaptation and selection of course materials based on instructional objectives.
- Proof course materials at initial stages of development to ensure adherence to effective instructional and graphic design principles, provide constructive feedback, and recommend changes as appropriate.
- Consult and collaborate with instructors regarding instructional needs, instructional objectives, curricular issues, and the application of instructional design to the design and delivery of instruction.
- Consult on the goals, policies, and procedures of the overall instructional support services.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, teaching assistants, and the public.
- Act as the College Nursing’s learning management systems (ICON) collegiate administrator and provide consultation and support for all courses offered by the College of Nursing.
- Manage projects for maintaining and improving educational facilities, services, and related support structures.
- Administer and manage technology tools and services used for instruction.
- Assist in the evaluation of effectiveness of learning spaces (e.g., classrooms, labs, studios) within the college and suggest adjustments as needed.
- Participate in the development of metrics to assess effective use of instructional technology.
- Participate in the collection, analysis, monitoring, and reporting of relevant data and information.
- Mentor staff and provide leadership in a specific area of expertise.
- Supervise student employees as assigned and assist with recruitment and training as needed.

Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Experience (typically 3 or more years) in course design and development, as well as creating instructional and training materials for online delivery.
- Experience working with online instructional technologies.
- Experience working on course management systems.
- Experience with creating interactive teaching and learning tools and strategies.
- On campus presence in College of Nursing.
- Demonstrates a Working proficiency level in the ability to:
- Apply concepts and practices of learning and design in the development of courses.
- Utilize distance learning tools and techniques for development and delivery of courses.
- Determine and execute relevant instructional design concepts and processes.
- Design instructional content to meet the learning needs of a target population.
- Work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner and effectively communicate using strong written and verbal English grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, and pronunciation.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects or activities and effectively prioritize and allocate time and resources.
- Use standard office software applications, web page editors, graphic software, and basic HTML.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Educational Media, Instructional Development or Design, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Extensive experience (typically 5 years) in course development and/or redesign, as well as creating instructional and training materials.
- Nursing specific undergraduate and or graduate-level course development and design experience.
- Project management skills and experience in an integrated team of diverse stakeholders
- Ability to evaluate academic assessment methods and activities, assess research and instructional programs, and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of academic objectives and strategies.
