- Providing lactation assessment, management, education and instruction
- Performing consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone
triage, and prenatal education as appropriate - Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chest feeding, family
bonding and planning, etc. - Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, being an
advocate for the patient at all times - Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative.
changes where appropriate - Coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services.
- Coordinate patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visit and possible admission, pre-schedules testing, follows up with test results to both patient and physician, obtains medical history, coordinates follow up visit appointment, provides medication, rehabilitation teaching, etc.
- Participate in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement programs.
- Use relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice and investigate nursing care problems.
Percent of Time: 90%
Schedule: Monday through Friday, Days, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Education Requirements:
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 - 3 years of current Lactation consultant, NICU, or OB nursing experience
- Maintain current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
- Demonstrated expertise in specific clinical area of practice
- Demonstrate excellent patient interaction/communication/education
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem solving skills

- Member/involvement in professional organizations
