The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking a Nuese Clinician Specialist for patients treated through the Department of Radiology. This individual will incorporate the roles of clinical specialist, educator, consultant, and practitioner as indicated to support and enhance patient care. They coordinate patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visit and possible admission, pre-schedules testing, follows up with test results to both patient and physician, obtains medical history, coordinates follow-up visit appointments, provides prescriptions, rehabilitation teaching, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently coordinates and facilitates patient care between multiple disciplines within both the confines of UIHC and the local communities (including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services).
- Acts as a clinical resource or consultant for specific patient population with regard to the condition requiring radiology intervention.
- Serves as an educational and clinical resource to patient/family/staff (supports patient/family/ educational activities).
- Manages and supports Telephone Triage.
- Collaborates with nursing, medical staff and other health professionals in the development and review of standards, protocols, home care instructions, and in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care for patients undergoing Interventional procedures.
- Operates autonomously in communicating with members of the health care team directing patient care and providing continuity of care across settings throughout the phases of care; autonomously communicates with referring physician.
- Revises patient care regime via the telephone or telemedicine within protocols developed collaboratively.
- Provides direct nursing care when necessary. Manages clinical visits for patients and assists providers during clinic visits. Follows universal precautions.
- Performs other special projects and tasks as assigned.
- Participates in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement program using appropriate risk and quality management data

Education Required:
- Baccalaureate in Nursing with minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience
Experience Requirements:
- Demonstration of commitment to principles of Service Excellence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well organized and detail oriented.
- Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospitals departments.
- Demonstrated expertise in specific clinic area of practice required.
Certification Requirements:
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
- Basic Life Support/CPR
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Nursing
- Experience with interventional radiology patient care/procedures
- Experience obtaining prior authorization and approval from insurance providers
- Demonstrated expertise in specific clinical area of practice required
