JOB SUMMARY :
The City of Birmingham is seeking highly qualified Fire Prevention Inspectors to conduct comprehensive building inspections across various structures, including restaurants, sports arenas, shopping centers, office buildings, and more. The primary responsibility of this role is to identify fire hazards and ensure compliance with international fire codes, ISP standards, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
Fire Prevention Inspectors will also assess fire protection, detection, and suppression systems and equipment. In addition to conducting inspections, they are responsible for completing detailed fire inspection reports, educating the public on fire safety and prevention, and may serve as fire department representatives at public meetings to provide vital fire safety information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position :
- Driver's license.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience in customer service (e.g., working through complaints, resolving conflicts, and gaining compliance).
- Experience writing, interpreting, and maintaining reports and records.
- Must be 18 years of age by the closing date of the announcement.
- Willing to perform work on a construction site (e.g., uneven ground, on roofs, around potential hazards).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling required to physically inspect new construction and existing buildings for potential fire code violations. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is primarily performed both in the field either on new construction sites or in and around existing buildings, and in an office setting.
