Firefighter - Secondary Appointment Interest

JOB SUMMARY :

The purpose of this announcement is to obtain applications from current Merit System employees who are interested in a secondary appointment as a part-time Firefighter within another Merit System agency (in accordance with Personnel Board Rule 11.3 as outlined below).

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS :

• The secondary appointment must be limited to employment in a part-time capacity. Full-time employment in a secondary appointment is prohibited.
• A secondary appointment does not confer any rights under the Personnel Board Rules & Regulations and an individual may be terminated by the Appointing Authority of the secondary employing jurisdiction with no rights to appeal under the Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.
• A termination for cause of an employee from his or her Regular Classified position shall result in termination of any secondary appointment in which the employee may be engaged with no right under the Personnel Board Rules & Regulations to appeal the termination of the secondary appointment.

Rule 11.3 of the Personnel Board Rules and Regulations allows for a Regular Employee within a Merit System Agency (Jurisdiction) to be appointed to a Secondary appointment within a different Merit System Agency in accordance with rule 11.13. To be considered for approval by the Personnel Board, the Secondary Appointment must have the approval of both the Appointing Authority over the employee's primary position and the Appointing Authority over the desired Secondary Appointment position. A Regular Employee may not have more than one Secondary Appointment at any given time. A Secondary Appointment may not be executed until formal approval is provided by the Personnel Board of Jefferson County
