Joby Aviation is seeking an experienced General Manager to join our Manufacturing team in Dayton, Ohio (JMO - Joby Manufacturing Ohio). This individual’s role will include managing a team producing complex Additive, Subtractive and Resin Transfer Molded aircraft parts and assemblies from raw stock to finished parts as well as the associated support teams along the manufacturing chain. A willing and “whatever it takes” attitude is very important for this position and goes a long way when thinking through a variety of solutions to setting the shop up and completing jobs on time due to the fast pace of parts flowing through the shop. This position is hands-on, and we aim to attract, retain, develop and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our team.
Responsibilities
- Establish and manage team who develops and operates Additive, Subtractive and Resin Transfer Molded technologies to create complex aircraft components from raw stock to finished part
- Provide leadership and direction to the manufacturing teams for each area as well as overseeing daily operations of the entire production process chain
- Manage team of engineers and technicians to provide solutions, feedback or alternative approaches to solve technical manufacturing problems with design and manufacturability of metallic and composite components
- Prepare the required schedule to set up the facility and corresponding manufacturing areas including cost estimates for scale up
- Determine the best facility setup, equipment layout/purchase strategy, process flow for operations from inventory to finished good
- Select, procure, and organize appropriate tooling, lab equipment, lab furniture, and general bring-up supplies for each area with input from existing and new team member
Required
- Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree or equivalent years of experience
- 5 years of experience in Medical or Aerospace in either Additive, Subtractive, or Composite Manufacturing fields
- 10 years of experience in Fabrication or Manufacturing
- 5 years leading a team in a manufacturing environment, including training staff
- Advanced knowledge in QC inspection processes and Quality Management in a regulated work environment
- Ability to perform complex set-up and fabrication of machined parts with no direction
- Experience in developing and maintaining a Quality Management System
- Advanced computer skills and familiarity with ERP and shopfloor IT systems.
- Skills to maintain the flow of work within the unit using independent judgment in solving complex or unusual problems
- Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees, management and customers/outside representatives
- Demonstrate continuous improvement of a well-organized and safe environment for all workspaces.
- Ability to work overtime as business conditions dictate
- Able to lift up to 35 lbs
- Ability to make multiple domestic and/or international trips during the first 6 months of employment
Desired
- Experience setting up and producing Additive parts – both single and multi laser
- 5 axis CNC mill and lathe expertise
- Experience in Composite Manufacturing – Resin Transfer Molding preferred
- Startup experience or similar
