We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized and passionate engineer to support our composite materials qualification effort, leading to the development, certification, and production of our eVTOL aircraft. This individual will have an overall responsibility to characterize composite materials.Responsibilities Develop and implement FAA mandated material qualification test planAuthor and maintain materials, process, and test specifications and advise on appropriate selection of materials and processes for parts and productsDevelop qualification plans, including process development and material characterization and coordinate with material & process test laboratory to execute engineering work ordersAnalyze composite material properties and behaviors to optimize manufacturing processesScreen and evaluate new materials and processes to optimize and enhance manufacturing throughput, including troubleshooting manufacturing processes to reduce quality non-conformances; participate in non-conformance disposition and corrective action processesInterface internally and with suppliers on technical issues with composite raw materials, new materials and processes, manufacturing plans, and part fabricationRequired B.S. degree 8 years in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, material science or a relevant disciplineIn depth understanding of composite parts fabrication and structural bondingFamiliarity with ASTM and SACMA test standardsExcellent technical writing, computer and presentation skillsUnderstanding of statistical design allowablesDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively & communicate effectivelyDesired M.S. / Ph.D. in relevant discipline8 years of experience in the aerospace industryHands-on material test laboratory experienceFamiliarity with FAR Part 23, DOT / FAA / AR-00 / 47 and CMH-17GAerospace background in advanced composites and bonded structuresCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $135,800 - $226,800 / yr.
