Job Summary
The farm maintenance technician will be responsible for operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems. Your primary objective is to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards while optimizing the efficiency of wastewater treatment processes.
Essential Job Functions
Sends water or wastewater through the treatment processes using pumps, valves, and other processing equipment.- Collects, tests, and analyzes water samples entering and leaving the treatment plant; notifies management of unexpected and/or abnormal findings; modifies treatment levels according to variances detected.
- Observes and interprets data from meters and gauges or individual machines or stages throughout the treatment process; modifies controls as needed.
- Maintains the treatment plants system by monitoring filters and chemical treatments, inspecting equipment, making necessary repairs, and servicing machines; contacts appropriate maintenance staff when major repairs or service are needed.
- Discards waste materials according to approved procedures and government controls.
- Implements and adheres to standard emergency procedures in the event of an overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water; notifies proper authorities and responders.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies concerning the treatment of wastewater.
- Complies with all applicable safety guidelines and standards.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines in all aspects of the job.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures for wastewater treatment processes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ensure all paperwork is filled out in clean, legible, and accurate format, completed with required information.
- Follow all Biosecurity Practices.
- Report any damages to company property.
- Report any animal welfare related issues to management immediately.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in wastewater treatment is a plus.
- Proven experience in operating and maintaining wastewater treatment systems.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to wastewater treatment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, work in varying weather conditions, and respond to emergency situations.
- Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize workload.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently make decisions with minimum supervision.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Strong teamwork skills with willingness to assist others.
- Ability to satisfy all assigned work schedules, including weekends, and comply with all time and attendance policies.
- Valid Driver’s License required to operate between multi-site locations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to comply with all company policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
Must be able to use Farm equipment. Tractor, power tools
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect equipment.
- Must be able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.
- The to safely ascend/descend a ladder while carrying 40 pounds.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to work in a wide range of working conditions including office and farms.
- Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and ammonia.
- Outside conditions include inclement weather, cold, heat and humidity.
- The noise level may be loud at times.
