What are the responsibilities and job description for the Perishable Department - Carrier Procurement position at Johanson Transportation Service?
The following is a list of essential duties and responsibilities for this position along with certain supportive duties. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and in addition, management, as appropriate, may modify this job description.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establish and grow relationships with trucking companies to support customer requirements.
2. Secure equipment for all available loads that have been assigned to your region utilizing load boards via DAT, Internet truck stop, and all other resources available.
3. Negotiate with carriers and clients in a manner that maximizes profitability (70% of day).
4. Bid additional business on new and existing lanes when requested.
5. Pre-plan the use of carriers and equipment for efficiency when possible.
6. Articulate to the carrier expectations to ensure transit times and on time deliveries are maintained.
7. Identify new sales opportunities through lead generation, heavy cold calling and prospecting.
8. Work regularly with logistics coordinators to determine the immediate and future trucking needs.
9. Work with logistics coordinators to trouble shoot issues with carriers/drivers.
10. Assist coordinators as needed.
11. Ensure that system is updated with the most accurate information in our carrier base.
