POSITION TITLE: Cafeteria Assistant

POSTION OVERVIEW:
To assist in maintaining the campus cafeteria in an efficient and effective manner to provide nutritious and high-quality meals in accordance with Federal, State and local laws, regulations, mandates, and health requirements.
This position is primarily responsible for the daily operations of the cafeteria and will perform their duties under the direct supervision of the campus cafeteria manager and cafeteria lead; prepare food as assigned, following proper meal standards, written standardized recipes and instructions, portion control methods and safe food handling practices; maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition; may be required to use more complex high volume production equipment; and do other related work as may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform Cooking and Preparation Duties: as assigned by cafeteria manager or cafeteria lead.
- Practice The Principles and Methods: of quantity food preparation, distribution, and storage.
- Follow Safe Food-Handling Practices and Procedures: in accordance with HACCP guidelines.

- Available During Summer Months: for training and meetings regarding school meal program.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS/LICENSES:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- The possession of current Food Hander Certification issued by an approved organization.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform cooking and preparation duties.
- Understand Federal, State and local program regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of meal pattern requirements for a reimbursable meal.
- Responsible for the performance of duties assigned by cafeteria manager or cafeteria lead including but not limited to: working in extreme temperatures, standing for extended periods of time, lifting twenty-five pounds without assistance.
- Responsible for the preparation of the food, as assigned by cafeteria manager or cafeteria lead, following proper meal standards, written standardized recipes and instructions, and portion control methods.
- Assist in the planning, receiving, storing, preparing, packaging, selling, and serving of hot and cold food items in accordance with prescribed menus and established procedures.
- Ensure the distribution of safe food by practicing established safe food-handling techniques and procedures.
- Responsible for cleaning serving lines, work stations, service areas, storage areas, cafeteria floors, cafeteria equipment and tools, washing dishes and utensils and emptying refuse in the cafeteria as assigned by the cafeteria manager. Cleaning materials may include but not limited to: various household and industrial chemicals such as chlorine bleach, grease cutter and oven cleaners.
- Assist with catering events (food preparation, setup, service and cleanup) which may be outside of normal work hours.
- Cooperate in all activities necessary for optimum, efficient functioning of the cafeteria.
- Observe safety rules and reports any accidents to the cafeteria manager or cafeteria lead.
- Takes proper care of equipment and facilities.
- Practice desirable health and work habits and maintain satisfactory standards of work and conduct.
- Maintain an attitude of helpfulness toward and cooperate fully with fellow employees.
- Provide outstanding customer service.
- Responsible for operating commercial dining services equipment.
- Assist in requisition, receiving and storing of food, supplies and materials.
- Assist in maintaining inventory control and operational records.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of cafeteria records and reports including inventory transport records and production records, utilizing a computer when necessary.
- Perform other duties/tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Current TB, CPR and First Aid Certification.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work environment may include both indoors and outdoors.
- Physical demands may include operating a computer keyboard, lifting moderately heavy objects, and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Potential hazards include exposure to heat from ovens, extreme cold from commercial freezers, cooking noises and odors, driving in traffic for work-related tasks, and cleaning fluids, including but not limited to bleach, detergents, oven cleaner.
