Position: Respiratory Therapist
Department: Cardiopulmonary
Shift: Per Diem: Standby – On-Site
Representation: This is a Union represented position and is represented by AFSCME Local 2703
Job Summary:
- Assess, treat, manage, and perform diagnostic evaluations for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities in the cardiopulmonary systems.
- Provide respiratory therapy services across various settings, including inpatient care, skilled nursing facilities, and home health and hospice services as needed.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement respiratory care plans.
- Uphold and maintain standards of respiratory therapy practice in compliance with state regulations and accreditation requirements.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency in respiratory therapy principles, practices, and techniques.
- Expertise in medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology related to respiratory care.
- Ability to accurately perform diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, stress tests, and halters, and interpret EKGs, ABGs, and PFTs.
- Familiarity with relevant State, Federal, and local laws governing respiratory therapy services.
- Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans with measurable goals.
- Ensure patient safety during all treatment sessions and interactions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress and treatment outcomes.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient care and treatment plans.
- Provide training and education to patients, families, and caregivers as part of discharge planning.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Satisfactory completion of an AMA-approved program in respiratory therapy.
- Current California State Respiratory Care Practitioner’s License.
- Registration by NBRC as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
- Current ACLS Healthcare Provider certification.
- Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferred, with exposure to diverse respiratory care settings.
