SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects including, painting large steel automotive frames for the transportation industry; performs inspections, clean ups, storage and disposal of paint products; and operates various tools and equipment.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
1. Perform a variety of routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, such as high steel and structural steel painting, sand blasting, and preparation for various priming and painting operations.
2. Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces including, ferrous metal, shop coated metal, uncoated metal, finished hardware, accessories, plates, and other surfaces as specified; protect and prime surfaces as appropriate; apply finish coatings to Mil Spec requirements.
3. Remove manufacturing applied protective coatings from equipment by sandblasting to include rust, mill scale, old paint, and discoloration; remove dust by brushing, vacuuming or air blasting; remove heavy deposits of grease or oil from surfaces.
4. Correct work as directed; repair nicks, scratches, runs or other small imperfections in the finish.
5. Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local occupational safety, health and air pollution control regulations including Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and with all safety precautions recommended by paint manufacturer.
6. Clean-up work areas, equipment, supplies and materials; apply standard safety practices and procedures.
7. Determine and apply appropriate coating systems for painting ferrous metals.
8. Maintain safety standards in the performance of duties.
9. Determine appropriate colors and coatings for various surfaces according to standard guidelines; obtain necessary approvals; and operate inspection equipment.
10. Perform related duties as required.
11. Practice safe work habits at all times, taking corrective action as necessary to achieve compliance with safety guidelines (PPE, restricted jewelry, JSA, etc.).
12. Monitor and arrange for the availability and proper use of all appropriate parts, tools and supplies.
13. Complete daily, end of shift verification of team’s 6-S housekeeping plan compliance and team member level maintenance responsibilities to make sure work area is prepared for next shift.
14. Rotate and conduct 1 complete cycle of a quality procedure on a weekly basis. Document results for Quality Committee. Advise Quality Assurance Leader of any quality concerns that need to be addressed.
15. Cross train team members.
16. Establish and maintain open communication with the team leader in sharing information regarding any issues.
17. Document and alert the Manufacturing Coordinator or Director of Operations or other member of leadership of any Human Resource problems among the team, including any performance or attendance discussions held with team members.
18. Utilize basic computer knowledge to share information and to complete and submit required documentation on a timely basis through E-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel. (Training will be provided.)
19. Access and print current routings, material availability and equipment blueprints through Syteline.
20. Provide hands-on training to team members that are required to perform computer tasks.
Team Leader must possess process knowledge of all tasks, equipment, procedures and specifications for designated area.
