2nd Shift Custodian Job - Urey Middle School

Work Hours: 2 pm -10 pm

Starting Pay ~ $18.49

The custodian is a key facilities team member who plays a vital role in the success of the learning environment. With the help of other key stakeholders, they perform basic cleaning and sanitation of an assigned area and associated areas. They do this by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, etc. on a daily basis. The cleanliness of the learning environment promotes health, attitude, and pride of students and staff. In addition to regular building cleaning functions, the custodian provides a high level of customer service for school events and community activities including set-up/clean-up.

The custodian also serves as a role model for students by displaying a professional, courteous, and helpful nature; assists and supports with building security as necessary; provides support to building activities; works closely with building administration on organizing evening activities and assures appropriate custodial support. With the help of other key stakeholders, the custodian will work to ensure a clean and secure facility that promotes success at all levels all while providing the highest level customer service for school.

The custodian receives overall direction from the Head Custodian and the building Principal. The custodian operates within school policies and procedures, and by applying acceptable custodial standards, labor and industry standards, and OSHA standards.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Cleaning Functions:

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; ect.; make sure all areas of the building are kept in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition according to industry standards/corporation standards.
• Assure safety during inclement weather to include plowing, shoveling and salt spreading.
• Adhere to safety measures for cleaning, lifting, moving, and operating equipment.

• Safety and Security:

• Conduct daily inspections and maintain awareness of facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage.
• Secure school building to ensure proper building security at all times.
• Assist in implementing emergency planning and response.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all staff.
• Able to stand, walk for long periods.
• Able to twist, turn and lift items associated with job responsibilities.
• A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred but Not Required Qualifications:

• Past experiences in a related field.
• CDL w/ “P & S” endorsements on driving license
