John Grace is now expanding its reach and we are looking for an Estimator in the Kalamazoo area.
Purpose of the Estimator Role
As an Estimator, you’ll be responsible for working alongside homeowners and insurance adjusters to prepare detailed and accurate estimates that include materials, labor and subcontracted work to complete restoration on a damaged residence.
We are looking for someone who
- Has 5 years of on-the-job experience in verifiable restoration estimator role working with Xactimate
- Has 2-3 years of managerial experience-preference for those with estimating/construction management background

- Has excellent time management, delegation, and multi-tasking skills
- Must be self-motivated
- Must be able to work independently
- Has strong technological abilities
Key responsibilities & duties
- Must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of construction and job-site safety
- Help develop, coach and train Estimators
- Must have strong awareness of project financials and budget planning
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge in an effective manner to homeowners who may be unfamiliar with construction terminology and process
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors/vendors
- Think creatively and problem-solve in the moment
- Motivate teams to promote efficiency and productivity
- Monthly review of profitability to look for opportunities and efficiencies.
- Work with Project Manager and Property Owner to ensure appropriate and timely cash collections per John Grace process
- Ensure John Grace process is known by all and consistently followed
- Actively participate in biweekly team meetings
- Attend project hand-off meetings with Project Manager
- Work with Project Manager on any supplements and ensure all items are on budget
- Must be able to balance big picture thinking with day-to-day operations
- Review completed projects with General Operations Manager to receive feedback to support efficiency and profitability goals
- Work with General Operations Manager for talent recruitment
- Work diligently to ensure highly satisfied customers
- Ensure all expenditures are appropriately applied to job costing
- Perform job-sites visits as required
- Conduct thorough job scopes, and meet deadlines for estimate approval
- Must comply with monthly revenue goals/completed work and profit percentage
Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
- Must pass a criminal background check to perform work on insurance related claims.
- Basic knowledge of smartphone/email technology.
