JKC excels with the largest, most complex projects, including O’Hare Airport, the Obama Presidential Center, University of Chicago, data centers, and shoreline.


Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Construction Estimator located in Chicago, IL. The Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and managing project budgets. Daily tasks include collaborating with project teams, communicating with clients and subcontractors, reviewing project documents, and providing support for cost management throughout the project lifecycle.


Assigned Responsibilities:

  • Proficiency in Heavy Civil Estimating and performing Quantity Take-offs
  • Project procurement, including project selection based on company mission.
  • Review and approval of all "pre-contract" proposals.
  • Quantity estimating and estimate building.
  • Subcontractor and supplier solicitation
  • Scope writing and Contract Review
  • Manage estimating databases / estimating software
  • Project diversity analyses and incorporation into proposals as required
  • Working with Project Managers on job cost development
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare complete, accurate estimates for earthwork, utility scopes, etc...
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using both manual and digital tools (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HCSS Heavy Bid)


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Over five (6) years, experience with Heavy Civil Construction and estimating required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field required
  • Evaluate and adapt to current market conditions and costs
  • strong communication and prioritization skills - update management on status of estimating schedule
  • Knowledge of Construction databases (Sage, HCSS Heavy Bid, Procore, Bluebeam)
  • Strong understanding of civil plans, geotechnical reports, bid specifications, and permitting requirements
  • Familiarity with IDOT, CDOT, and other public agency bid processes is a plus
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills


Salary Range:

$80,000 - $120,000
