Position: Staff Accountant
Reports To: CFO / Controller
Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of JKVCF by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial statements, and performing day-to-day financial tasks. This role involves performing journal entries, handling Excel-based financial reports, and completing payroll processing. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, solid accounting knowledge, and experience in the senior living or healthcare industry.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger & Journal Entries:
- Prepare and post journal entries in compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Analyze monthly accruals and allocation of prepaid expenses.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis and resolve any discrepancies.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Maintain and update various Excel-based financial models and spreadsheets.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, management reports, and budget variance analyses.
- Support process of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
Fixed Asset Accounting:
- Maintain the fixed asset sub-ledger, ensuring accurate recording of acquisitions, disposals, and transfers.
- Record and track capital expenditures, ensuring compliance with capitalization policies.
- Calculate and post monthly depreciation and amortization journal entries.
- Reconcile fixed asset accounts to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies.
Payroll Processing:
- Complete payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Verify timesheets, calculate wages, and handle payroll taxes and deductions.
- Coordinate with HR and other Directors to address payroll issues.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable:
- Support accounts payable process, including coding invoices, matching purchase orders, and processing payments.
- Support accounts receivable activities, such as billing, collections, and cash application.
- Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, as well as external regulations.
- Assist in the preparation of audit documentation and support external and internal audit activities.
Ad Hoc Projects & Support:
- Participate in special projects as needed to improve financial processes.
- Support the CFO, Controller, and other team members with ad hoc analysis and reporting.
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
- Other duties as requested or assigned including reporting for creation of Form 990
Working Conditions: Office environment
- Full-time position, typically Monday through Friday.
- Hourly, non-exempt position.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of Accounting team, will also be required to interact with other employees and managers of John Knox Village

Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Required: 2-4 years of experience in accounting similar role.
- Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage).
- Required: Experience with payroll processing and software (e.g., Paychex, PayCom).
- Preferred: Experience in the senior living or healthcare industry.
