St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking a Head Cheer Coach for the 2025-2026 school year (starting Spring 2025 with tryouts). This is a stipend only and/or a full time teaching/coaching position (depending on teaching credentials and open teaching positions)


Job Summary: The Coach fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by developing, initiating, and administering the women's cheerleading team. The Coach is recommended to the principal by the athletic director, hired by the principal, and evaluated in consultation with the athletic director. The head coach provides instruction and coaching to students to safely develop skills and the ability to excel in cheer. The team in 2025-26 will focus on school spirit and in-game cheering, and will compete in that category in competitions.

Requirements

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Program Advancement
• Create a cohesive cheer program, to involve middle school feeder schools in the area.
• Build relationships with student-athletes to ensure adequate participation.
• Execute cheerleader evaluations and team placement at the beginning of each season.

• Facilitate off-season and summer cheer development and research best practices for program development.

Community Engagement
• Routinely meet with the athletic director and school admin, student-athletes and parents to ensure top-notch program communication internally.
• Assist the admissions office with events that can positively impact the enrollment of the school and promotion of all school programs
• Engage in community activities in the area and surrounding communities that may benefit the school and athlete development
• Be an advocate for student-athletes and communicate needs, concerns, or requests effectively between coaches and teachers
• Assist in organizing event promotions to drive student attendance and participation at sporting events.

Faith Formation
• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school

• Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
• Equip and empower assistant coaches to be spiritual guides for student-athletes
• Attend and participate in a team mass and community service project

• Encourage student-athletes to integrate their faith on the sidelines, in competitions, and their everyday lives.


Management Skills

• Provide feedback to assistant coaches throughout the season regarding their performance
• Evaluate, mentor, and provide leadership to assistant coaches
• Assist, where possible, area middle school coaches to best train and coach athletes that will feed into the high school
• Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship
• Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
• Oversee the cheer team budget and payments, under the direction of the Athletic Director, to properly plan for program expenses, both short and long term

Scheduling
• Ensure timely and accurate athletic website updates to include both practice and game schedules
• Assist coaches with competition schedules and practice schedules, and communicate those dates with parents, athletes, and school administration.


Administrative and Other Responsibilities
• Inspect and recommend replacement and/or additions to ensure adequate facilities and equipment are available
• Assist in purchasing of uniforms and equipment
• Seek out and create opportunities for parent engagement and community building
• Maintain professional development by attending training and clinics
• Assist in execution of summer camps
• Assist in execution of athletic department fundraisers
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration
• Maintain a high level knowledge of all TAPPS and NCAA/NFHS rules
• Be able and willing to provide emergency care; maintain CPR-First-Aid-AED certifications; engage professional emergency personnel (911) if needed; know where automated external defibrillators (AED’s) are located on campus
• Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to foster, apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with St. John Paul II Catholic High School student handbook
• Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
