JOB SUMMARY
A substitute teacher is responsible for enabling each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and thoroughly as possible in the absence of his or her regular teacher. A substitute teacher is responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the regular teacher and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in the policies of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Candidates will state age/grade-level preference, available days/hours, preference of emergency (day of request) or planned (advanced request) and will be included in our substitute pool to be called/scheduled as needed.
REPORTS TO: Principal
FLSA Status: Temp/Non-Exempt (unless specified otherwise)
Essential job functions:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic Schools Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Follows the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom he or she is substituting for
- Meets and instructs assigned class or classes in the locations(s) and at the time(s) designated
- Establishes and maintains order in the classroom
- Maintains a classroom environment conducive to active learning
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Tech-savvy with classroom instruction: ability to use Google Classroom, Zoom, the entire Gsuite (google docs, drive, etc.)
- Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
- Able to work well with others in the school community
- Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format
- Skill in job appropriate technology
- Skill in critical thinking and planning
- Critical thinker and proactive problem solver.
Working conditions:
- Required to manage high to moderate levels of stress
Mental/Physical Demands:
- Required to lift or carry equipment and supplies
- Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of anger
- Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily
- Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
- Required to monitor students in a variety of locations including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Previous substituting or teaching experience preferred
- Must pass archdiocesan Safe Enviornment Requirements and background screening.
