Job Title: Para-Educator - Special Education
Job Summary
The Para Educator - Special Education will work under the supervision of the Director of Special Education (or designee) to assist in the planning and implementation of a program for students.
Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor student IEPs.
- Develop caring relationships with students.
- Operate office equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform arithmetic calculations with accuracy.
- Maintain accurate and complete records and reports.
- Explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to students and parents.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplications, keyboarding, and maintaining records.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and others.
- Work confidentially and maintain student confidentiality.
- Plan and organize work, meeting schedules and deadlines.
- Assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for students.
- Supervise and participate in student activities, including playground supervision.
- Assist in setting up and monitoring program facilities.
- Provide direct tutorial assistance to students individually or in groups.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Prepare materials of instruction and set up work areas.
- Assist students and teachers as needed.
- Assist certificated teachers in operating classrooms and instructing individual or small groups of students.
- Assist in developing lesson materials and plans, identifying student needs, and maintaining records.
- Assist students in specific problem areas as necessary.
- Maintain order in the classroom and assist instructors with discipline when necessary.
- Perform class-related clerical work.
- Assist students in using computers.
- Assist students in learning proper grooming habits and personal hygiene.
- Participate in meetings, such as IEP, SARB, parent-teacher conferences, etc.
- Assist in feeding, serving, and preparing lunches, and post-meal cleanup.
- Assist students with toilet functions, taking them to the bathroom, changing diapers, assisting with cleanup, and changing clothes when necessary.
- Ensure the health and safety of students at all times.
- Assist students to and from buses, lifting students, and/or pushing wheelchairs when necessary.
- Assist students in physical education and motor skill activities.
Experience and Education
Graduation from high school or possession of GED required. One year of student-related experience and a passing score on the District competency test are also required.
Essential Functions
