The Role
Wood is currently seeking an Area Construction Manager to join our Life Sciences team. The role will be based out of our Midwest USA office. The Area Construction Manager will provide technical direction and leadership to construction team members. Reporting to Construction Lead for project delivery of capital asset consistent with overall project objectives & business case.

Typical responsibilities
- Representative for Construction on required project teams, and other strategic teams as applicable
- Manage the delivery of construction of the Facility, Utilities and Equipment assets and support of asset through startup and commissioning
- Collaborate with Project Delivery teams and sub-teams for execution of project
- Contribute to a safe construction environment throughout the project and model expected team behaviors
- Take ownership of EHS through emphasis on EHS by Design and Principles of Prevention
- Take ownership of quality in Construction area, with emphasis on "Right First Time"
- Create and deliver project file to the project document management solution
- Define the resource requirements necessary for successful execution of construction scope
- Contribute to routine communication of project status for respective areas (progress, budget, schedule, risk)
- Deliver facility and systems as "CQV ready"
- Provide direction and decision authority to external CM partners for construction planning and execution as well as system testing through completion of Startup & Debug
- Provide direction to system owners in receipt of procured equipment at site and for Care, Custody & Control during Construction Phase and subsequent transfer to Operations following completion of CQV
- Ensure Construction Team compliance to relevant Engineering Design Standards and approve any proposed variances.
- Collaborate with Design Lead and Execution Systems Lead to ensure delivery of Construction activities meet Detailed Design requirements
- Deliver a construction safety program that ensures safety for all CSL and partner employees over the construction lifecycle
- Define functional content within RFPs to ensure accurate procurement of goods and services
- Define and approve bidder list for Construction-related goods and services
- Review bids and select partners for Construction-related goods and services

Expected:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent combination of construction supervision, qualifications, and experience
- Field construction experience, minimum of 15 years of experience in a relevant industry
- Experience managing projects greater than $500M
- Well organized, observant, good interpersonal and communication skills
- Display both good judgment and leadership qualities
- Ability to work with timelines/targets
- Ability to be assertive and drive culture change when required
- Excellent interpersonal organizational, communication and team building skills
