Wood is recruiting for an Environmental Science Renewables Graduat to join its Consulting business. This opportunity is Hybrid in Decatur, IL.

The Role
The Environmental Science Renewables Graduat will conducting general point count bird surveys, eagle point count surveys, and aerial and ground-based raptor nest surveys. Demonstrable experience conducting bird surveys and proficiency at identifying birds by both site and sound is an asset. B.S. or M.S. degree in biology preferred. Candidates with prior experience conducting avian surveys for wind energy projects will be given preference. The applicant must be able to work independently and interact with project managers, technicians, and landowners. Use of personal vehicle will be required, and mileage reimbursement will be paid for personal vehicle use. This role will support our scopes of work in the Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage industries and includes regular interaction with team members across at least five countries.
The Environmental Science Renewables Graduate will support the delivery of multidisciplinary projects through their feasibility, pre-construction and/or construction phases with a specific focus on the environmental and permitting aspects of projects. Act as a consultant, supporting solar PV, onshore wind, storage and green hydrogen scopes as part of a project development team.

Typical responsibilities
- Conduct general point count bird surveys, eagle point count surveys, and aerial and ground-based raptor nest surveys.
- Identify birds by sight and sound with a high level of accuracy.
- Navigate to designated survey locations using a handheld GPS and maps.
- Collect and record data meticulously following project protocols.
- Work independently in remote areas under varying weather conditions.
- Communicate findings and report data in a timely manner.
- Ensure health, safety and environmental considerations are integral to the delivery of projects and project tasks.
Additionally, the position will occasionally include the following tasks:
- Perform environmental field assessments across the U.S. including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, wetland delineations, and biological studies.
- Support the delivery of renewable energy project development scopes in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements.
- Support the preparation of comprehensive technical reports to facilitate environmental permits.
- Support environmental permitting efforts with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
- Provide technical and logistical support to Wood and subcontractor field personnel.
- Regularly and accurately report the status of projects to Renewable Energy’s management.
- Contribute to a team of multi-disciplined specialists to design, develop and deliver renewable energy project scopes on behalf of clients.
- Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new opportunities for the company.
- Support the development and implementation of new tools, processes, and systems to ensure effective delivery of project execution and delivery.
- Ensure regulatory requirement compliance pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record compliance and retention.

Expected:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or Natural Resources related discipline
- Previous experience conducting point count surveys or similar avian monitoring is viewed as an asset.
- Strong bird identification skills, particularly for Midwest species.
- Ability to work alone in remote locations and hike in uneven terrain.
- Comfort with early mornings and working in varied weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Experience using GPS, field data collection tools, and binoculars.
- Demonstrated interest in the renewable energy sector.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- A flexible and proactive approach to completing work
- Proactive approach to team communications, issue identification and troubleshooting, and lesson’s learned logs
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel)
- Valid driving license for use within USA. Must be a US Citizen, or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood
