Job Overview
The Client is a three decades old national Geo-Technical Engineering Company based in the southeastern United States with more than two hundred employees. The Company will open an office in Savannah, Georgia to serve clients along the eastern seaboard. The Sr. Geotechnical Engineer will be integral to the success of this new office.
Geotechnical Engineer Responsibilities & Duties
Leads and directs technical and management programs and projects (multiple and individual) with overall project / program management responsibility. Manages projects and is responsible for committing company resources. Manages the technical process. Ensures consistent, professional written communication. Manages / solves technically complex problems. Recognizes, initiates, and advances business development opportunities. May manage and develop staff and manage succession planning. Manages project budget.
Subsurface Soil Investigation, Geologic Investigations, Hydrogeologic Assessments, Foundation Investigations, Rock Stability Analysis, Rock Anchor Design, Dam Investigations and design Dam Breach Analysis, Pile / Caisson / Foundation Load Tests, Slope Stability Analysis, Tunnel Design, Soil Nailing Design, Value Engineering and Failure Investigations.
Performs a wide range of Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental, and Materials Testing services. Supervises, directs, and trains other engineers and technicians. Responsible for reviewing all projects performed under the auspices of Registered Engineer status.
Duties include site visits and reconnaissance, proposal preparation, report writing, construction monitoring and testing, and coordination with other engineers, engineering technicians, clients, government agencies, and subcontractors. Conducts Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental-related projects. Continuing education in the form of seminars; in-house or out-of-the-office training, or self-study is required.
Administration duties include cost control, invoicing projects, reviewing project status schedule, and any other duties as required resolution of client problems requiring professional opinions.

Geotechnical Engineer Qualifications & Skills
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS or GeoStudio
- Strong understanding of local and national geotechnical codes and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven track record of successful project management
- Experience with seismic hazard analysis and design
- Knowledge of groundwater flow modeling
- Fieldwork experience in diverse geological settings
- Membership in professional organizations such as ASCE or ISSMGE
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering
- Proficiency in geotechnical investigation techniques and analysis methods
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, and other engineering software
- Understanding of construction processes and material properties
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
