Do you enjoy seeking innovative solutions to unusual technical problems using modern cryogenic systems?

Do you like contributing to a highly-collaborative, team environment that includes some of the top experts in their fields?

If so, we are seeking someone like you to join our team!

APL is seeking physicists experienced in low temperature work. As a member of a highly multidisciplinary team, you will work on a variety of experiments, including construction of cryogenic apparatuses, development of cryogenically-cooled sensors, and exploration of novel quantum systems.

We are a hardworking group of experimentalists, passionate about developing innovative projects that can impact future use of quantum technologies for the betterment of our national security! Our team is committed to scientific excellence and continuous learning/improvement, valuing high-risk, high-reward ideas, honest discussion, and open collaboration.

As a Low Temperature Physicist, you will:

  • Support existing programs through day-to-day operations of various cryogenic systems and experiments.
  • Supply high-quality ideas and insights into both existing and future problems, leading to novel solutions adaptable to APL's mission and sponsor needs.
  • Develop creative, independent research in support of existing efforts.
  • Collaborate with a team of physicists, electrical engineers, materials scientists, and fabrication technicians to develop innovative devices, sensors, system prototypes, new insights, and responsive proposals to meet unique sponsor needs.
  • Be encouraged to fill leadership roles on existing projects, and to propose new research directions for APL's sponsors.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
