Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Systems Engineer at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), you will lead the development of new national-priority systems in the strategic defense domain. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the developed systems meet user needs while mitigating program risks.
Qualifications
- You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or another related technical degree.
- At least ten years of relevant experience in a technical position, working on systems/software engineering, system definition, design, and development, system architecture, and/or test and evaluation are required.
- You must have demonstrated experience in system/software engineering methodologies principles and concepts to solve systems-related challenges.
- Working knowledge of algorithm development and/or analysis using scientific programming languages such as MATLAB, C , Java, or Python is essential.
- You must be able to proactively identify and develop solutions to address sponsor critical technical challenges and meet program milestones.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements is necessary.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently, as a team player, and closely with sponsors are required.
- Comfortable and effective in communicating on technical topics at all levels, including peers, executive-level management, and senior government leaders.
- Willingness to travel under 10% of the time as needed to the APL Main Campus location in Laurel, MD.
- Able to obtain a TS/SCI level security clearance and meet the requirements for access to classified information, including U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or another related technical degree is preferred.
- At least fifteen years of relevant experience in a technical position, with experience leading a team of engineers and/or scientists, with demonstrated results is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with Government and Military leadership, presenting complex analysis, and ability to coordinate across a geographically dispersed team to deliver exceptional results is preferred.
- Experience with DoD or IC organizations such as STRATCOM, Air Force, Army, Navy, NRO, Space Force, DNI, and others is preferred.
- Extensive experience working on highly classified programs is preferred.
- Holding an active US Top Secret/SCI Security clearance is preferred.
