APL’s Tech Transfer Group is seeking a senior-level, highly motivated Technology Commercialization Manager to join the APL's Legal and Commercialization Branch.  As a Technology Commercialization Manager, you will work with the Tech Transfer Supervisor and other Legal and Commercialization Branch staff to manage and license a portfolio of engineering and science, information processing, and other technical intellectual property by analyzing, recommending, and implementing IP protection and transfer strategies.

 

As a Technology Commercialization Manager...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with APL innovators, APL leadership and the other technology commercialization managers to assess, market and license APL intellectual property to industry, and other partners, negotiate directly with potential licensees, and close high-value license agreements. 
  • You will support APL efforts to create new start-up companies and otherwise encourage entrepreneurial efforts.
  • You will provide cradle-to-grave management of engineering and physical sciences technologies, and perform research and analysis on a variety of issues including patent trends, innovation, technical issues, and technology transfer topics of importance to APL.
  • You will leverage Tech Transfer's engagement with industry, academia and other private sector partners to stimulate innovation, present new business and research opportunities, and promote staff engagement with the commercialization process.
  • You will partner with APL patent counsel to secure and maintain intellectual property protection for relevant innovations within the portfolio.
  • You will provide guidance and help shape the future of APL’s intellectual property portfolios to align with both APL strategic goals and industry needs.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or other physical science or engineering field with 10 years of related industry and technical experience.
  • Are experienced in technology licensing and IP management.
  • Have strong leadership, communication, research/analytical, organizational, creative, and problem solving skills.
  • Have the capacity to positively and proactively interact with APL innovators, APL management, and industry contacts.
  • Have proven ability to prioritize IP and assess its impact, generate licensing opportunities, negotiate terms, and execute agreements.
  • Are willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a final Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

 

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

  • An additional degree above the required, such as a MS, PhD, or an MBA.
  • Relevant experience with the U.S. Department of Defense or other federal government agencies.
  • Experience in marketing and communications campaigns, especially related to technology marketing.
  • An active Secret or higher level clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

$90,000 Annually

Maximum Rate

$350,000 Annually
