Johnson College is currently seeking a English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor. The ESL tutor will provide individualized and group tutoring to students whose primary language is not English. The tutor will focus on helping students improve their academic English skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as cultural competency for success in a college environment. The ESL tutor plays a vital role in supporting student success and fostering a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Tutoring Services
- Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions focused on ESL student needs.
- Assist students with academic assignments, comprehension of course material, and development of effective study skills.
- Help students improve language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, readying comprehension, and writing structure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
- Strong command of English, including grammar and academic writing.
- Experience tutoring or teaching ESL students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- TESOL/TEFL certification or equivalent training, preferred.
- Familiarity with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, preferred.
- Experience working in an academic setting, particularly in higher education, preferred.
- Proficiency in a second language, preferred.
