Job Title: Clinical Coder
Location: Johnson County Hospital, Tecumseh, Nebraska
Department: Health Information Management
Reports To: HIM Manager
Job Summary:
The Clinical Coder is responsible for converting diagnoses and treatment procedures into standardized codes in accordance with established guidelines. This role supports accurate medical records for data retrieval, analysis, and reimbursement purposes.
Schedule:
Working hours are Monday through Friday. You are required to work every third Saturday and some holidays to support admissions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately assign codes for diagnoses, treatments, and medical procedures using ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS, and CPT coding systems.
- Ensure timely coding completion (within seven days of discharge).
- Stay current with coding rules, updates, and healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation discrepancies.
- Review medical records for completeness and compliance with standards.
- Comply with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
- Participate in continuous training and certification to maintain coding credentials.
- Assist the admissions department during busy clinic days and continue to fill in at the receptionist desk as needed.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a coding certificate program accredited by AHIMA or AAPC (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCA).
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency with EHR systems and coding software.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with medical staff.
