Job Description:
Johnson County Library seeks a Project Coordinator to work on a project management team to coordinate prioritization and resourcing for Library strategic projects and/or planning and implementation of capital projects. The Project Coordinator oversees projects of various size, scope, and complexity and works with stakeholders to define the needs of the project and ensures project objectives and client expectations are met. For projects involving work managed by other county departments or agencies, this position will serve as a primary point of contact in coordinating library resources, communication, and other aspects of project coordination. First review of applications will take place on April 14, 2025. Other duties include:
  • Develops, maintains, and coordinates system for prioritization and resourcing for Library strategic projects; presents information and is accountable, with Operations group, to finalize quarterly strategic project prioritization; leads the annual development of the Comprehensive Library Master Plan (CLMP) timeline which informs the Capital Improvement Project (CIP) submittal.
  • Oversees projects of various size, scope, and complexity within various areas of library management, including IT, facilities, and strategic planning; defines the needs of the project and ensures project objectives and client expectations are met; directs and manages all major project phases; initiation, planning, execution, monitor and control, and project closure; develops and executes project plans including work breakdown structure, milestones, and schedule; assesses and determines project resource needs to include staffing; monitors budget and project plan; reviews and approves project deliverables; makes project decisions utilizing Top 15 Priorities determined by Library Administration; continually monitors all involved parties' responsibilities and ensures follow through; identifies, tracks, and ensures project risks are mitigated and issues resolved; troubleshoots problems; manages change requests.
  • Serves as the project point person for the Library; directs and communicates with project stakeholders from various Library and County departments, as well as external stakeholders; works with CX-Communication to develop and maintain communication plan; engages in ongoing status reporting, team meetings, and vendor correspondence; presents monthly at JCL board meetings; provides ad-hoc updates and presentations; attends BoCC meetings to answer questions; coordinates and facilitates regular meeting with Library Administration regarding current and future projects priorities.
  • Develops and implements professional development, standards, practices, and procedures that promote project success and effective use of resources; applies relevant project management principles to project assignments; adapts project lessons learned and continuous process improvements to current and future project assignments.
  • Develops and maintains project management training workshop for Library staff who lead system-wide projects; teaches and illustrates project management concepts; provides feedback to participants; refreshes program content as necessary; provides expertise, guidance, and ongoing coaching to project leads and sponsors.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Library Science, or relevant field is required. Three (3) years of project management or related management experience is also required.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Education/Experience Substitutions:
Experience may be substituted for education. Education may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
A master's degree in Business, Public Administration, Library Science, or relevant field is preferred. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is also preferred.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

May be required to respond on days/hours outside normal office hours.
