What are the responsibilities and job description for the ACCOUNT CLERK II – ACCOUNTS PAYABLE position at Johnson County?
Under general supervision, perform clerical and technical duties involving a variety of functions requiring considerable judgment. Process accounting maintain accurate financial and other records. Perform routine reconciliation operations which involve a variety of documents that may require cross-referencing to identify causes of disagreement. Check to verify appropriateness of entries; perform several types of computation including complicated calculations that involve formulae or a specific sequence of actions.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Inspect vouchers and supporting documentation submitted by County departments, verify accuracy and compliance with County policies, and contact departments to resolve issues and verify questionable information.
- Use financial software to maintain vendor records, enter and process claims, and produce accounts payable checks and reports according to established weekly deadlines.
- Respond to inquiries about vendor payments and other accounts payable issues.
- File vouchers and other documents in electronic and paper form.
- Prepare annual 1099 forms in accordance with federal requirements.
- Prepare and process County block grant payments.
- Reconcile office cash box and prepare daily deposit of receipts for the Treasurer's Office.
- Process and distribute incoming office mail; maintain and reconcile a ledger of cash and checks received by mail.
- Use financial software to maintain general ledger chart of accounts, post journal entries, and generate general ledger and budget reports.
- Proof payroll timesheet entry and prepare payroll checks for departmental pickup.
- Inventory, reorder, and stock office supplies for the office.
- Produce and edit documents including but not limited to e-mails, memos, letters, reports, forms, and labels.
- Assist members of the public at the counter, including those who wish to register to vote or vote early. Answer and route telephone, email, and in-person inquiries to the appropriate parties.
- Perform assigned tasks to assist with elections.
- Participate in training, educational opportunities, and work-related meetings as requested.
- Perform specific duties of other Account Clerk II positions as assigned.
- May provide backup for clerks in other offices/departments during peak demand.
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with County and departmental policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreement, and safety practices.
- Attend work regularly at the designated place and time.
