Position Overview :
We’re a leading global fitness company seeking a talented and hands-on Mechanical Project Test Engineer to work in our New Product Development (NPD) team as a specialist to evaluate and resolve potential risk and failure areas. Based on design analysis, use case study, and historical data, this engineer will establish test protocols, design and create test fixtures, set-up and execute tests, obtain and analyze data, then work with the development team on outcomes.
Responsibilities :
New Product Development :
- Detailed mechanical and key component design review and analysis for potential failure and risk areas
- Partnership with system, electrical, software, and related engineering functions on failure and risk analysis
- Test plan development and execution to mitigate design and use risks
- Product safety review process and expertise
- Thorough understanding and application of regulatory and internal test standards
- Product specification review and analysis
Project Engineering :
Support the development team with multiple projects through the New Product Development processSupport the development team for all phasegate deliverables and ensure completion to company standardsDaily interaction with global development teams on design and testingDesign and Test Engineering :
Development of test standards and proceduresDesign and hands-on creation of test fixtures, set-ups, and related equipmentParticipate in product safety review processesObtain and analyze field and user data, develop and execute test protocols for root cause, design and verify solutionsDevelop mechanical and electro-mechanical designs, perform cost analysis, BOM generation and auditPerform detailed design analysis utilizing engineering mechanics, FBD’s, FEA, fatigue analysis, and relatedDevelop and review drawings, perform tolerance analysis, create and review tooling plansProduction Transition support :
Develop functional requirements and test plans for transition of product into mass productionTrain Asia-based engineering and factory manufacturing team on design and test requirementsRequirements
Education :
BS in mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or similarExperience :
Minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineeringWell qualified candidates will possess engineering experience with fitness products and strong fitness market knowledgeExpertise with engineering mechanics and design analysisProficiency with fixture design, test setup, air cylinders, load cells, electro-mechanical control systems, and data acquisitionStrong FEA, DFMEA, test plan development and execution skillsDemonstrable experience designing components for various manufacturing processes including plastics, sheetmetal, tube forming, casting, machining, welding & joining, etcOther Requirements :
Thorough experience with 3D CAD and related design analysis tools (Solidworks preferred)Ability and willingness to travel internationallyAbility and willingness for non-business hours communication and calls with overseas teamsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work well with numerous diverse groups and individualsBenefits :
