We are seeking a skilled and experienced Woodworker / Production Team Leader to oversee and lead our woodworking production team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in woodworking techniques and craftsmanship, combined with the ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of production workers to meet high-quality standards and production targets. This role requires both hands-on woodworking expertise and effective leadership to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of woodworkers and production staff, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
- Provide training and development to staff on woodworking techniques, safety protocols, and machinery operation.
- Coordinate daily production schedules, prioritize tasks, and ensure resources are allocated effectively.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions when necessary
Woodworking & Production:
- Perform hands-on woodworking tasks including cutting, shaping, assembling, and finishing furniture, cabinetry, and custom wood products.
- Ensure that products meet design specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
- Operate and maintain woodworking machinery and tools, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed.
- Inspect workpieces to ensure they meet the required finish and quality standards.
Process Improvement & Efficiency:
- Monitor production processes to identify opportunities for improving efficiency, reducing waste, and improving product quality.
- Work closely with the Production Manager to suggest and implement improvements in production workflows, techniques, and material handling.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials and work with purchasing to ensure timely restocking and cost-effective use of resources.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations, conducting regular safety checks and promoting a culture of safety within the team.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials and finished products.
Communication & Reporting:
- Maintain clear communication with other departments (design, purchasing, etc.) to ensure smooth workflow and resolve any issues that arise during production.
- Report on production progress, inventory needs, and team performance to the Production Manager.
- Keep track of production timelines, customer orders, and deadlines to ensure timely delivery.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (3 years) as a woodworker, carpenter, or in a similar role, with experience in managing a production team.
- Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, materials, and machinery.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a production environment is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations related to woodworking and production environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; certification or training in woodworking, carpentry, or related fields is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to [50 lbs] as needed.
- Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Comfortable working with various types of machinery and hand tools in a production environment.
