POSITION TITLE: Shipping & Receiving Clerk

REPORTS TO: Plant Supervisor

Salary Class- Non-Exempt

PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVE

This person is responsible for ensuring we receive the specified items in the specified quantities without damage and that we ship specified items in the specified quantities to the correct customer on-time without damage in the most economical way possible.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include the following and any other duties that may be assigned.

• Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
• Picks parts and ensures all parts are of good quality.
• Chooses proper container, spacers, fillers and protective padding to protect parts in transit.
• Builds wooden crates and skids to protect items in transport.
• Determines best method of shipment and calls carriers to arrange for pickups.
• Loads and unloads trucks.
• Keeps record of incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Maintains inventory of shipping material and supplies.
• May direct or train others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
• Keeps the shipping area clean and organized.
• Will on occasion be asked to make local pick-ups or deliveries in company vehicles.
• Will be required to do other jobs around the shop including assembly, lining, sheet metal, painting or machining work as needed.
• Adheres to all health and safety policies and procedures and takes steps to take reasonable care of others that may be working in or around them.
• Wears, maintains and appropriately stores all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Promptly reports any safety concerns or incidents to management.
• Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are preferred of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

1. Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree.

2. Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

3. Technical Skills:

Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

Ability to read and use a tape measure and a protractor.

Ability to use different types of machinery and tools, including hand tools and power tools.

Ability to read blueprints.

Maintain a forklift certification.

Computer skills are a plus.

4. Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand on concrete for long periods of time.

Must be able to perform some reaching and bending.

Must have good eyesight and hearing.

Must be able to do a lot of kneeling.

Must have good finger dexterity.

Must be able to lift 70 LBS.

5. Prerequisites:

· Must be self-motivated.

· Must work well with others in a team-oriented atmosphere.

· Must be able to communicate accurately in written and oral communications.

· Must be detail oriented.

· Willing to take the initiative to learn other jobs and sub-assemblies and have the initiative to do them when they need to be done.

· Must have valid drivers license and clean driving history.

DIRECT SUPERVISION

Minimal.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

· Quantity of work performed will be measured by the volume of small packages shipped/day and large items shipped/day.

· Quality of packaging will be measured by volume of damaged shipments

· Quality/Accuracy of record keeping will be measured by accurate inventory counts on received items.

· Order picking accuracy will be measured by shipping related customer complaints.

· Ability to manage work and accomplish objectives by dates agreed upon.

· Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisor.

· Ability to work safely and show care for co-workers safety.

Pay: From $25.51 per hour
